Thanks For the help Compass Nine! The guys and gal from the Compass Nine Amani Garden Project have helped to create USM's 4th garden on campus. This garden will have 11 raised bed boxes, with crushed limestone between the boxes to help reduce weed growth and keep shoes from getting too muddy. We late planted lima beens, beets, and cucumbers in the hopes of harvesting a few things before the growing season ends. Radishes, lettuces, basil and a few selected herbs from Karen's garden will be transplanted into the kitchen in the next few weeks. The garden is located close to the middle school dining room so that FLIK can take full advantage of of the harvest for the school community.
By the way, this is the fourth vegetable garden established at USM. The first was Karen's garden in 2007. The second garden is called " The Patch" and pumpkins and a few sunflowers are grown in this garden. The patch was established in 2010. The third garden is the PrePrimary Garden located by the preprimary play ground. This garden was installed fall of 2013.
