Sifting Compost

Once the greens and browns have been composted, and the compost has been turned a few times, it is ready for the garden. If the compost has alot of wood chips in the mixture then the compost can be sifted to remove them. The video clip show the process of taking the finished compost (our only fertilizer in Karen's Garden) and sifting it to remove the chips and let rich organic soil collect below.

After the Compost has been sifted, it can be added to the garden. Don't have a wheel barrow? A sheet of recycled plastic or an old blanket with an eager group of students can alway be a great substitute! Watch below.
