On December 19th, just before winter break, a group of EAT students including Jackson Marlin, Sahethia Raja, Julia Rothaker, Jordan Stoffel, and Sara Filali helped compost the last batch of greens for the year ending 2007. In addition to composting the the greens and browns, temperatures were taken inside the compost pile and outside in the air. The outside air temperature was a chilly -2 degrees Celsius. Inside the compost pile it was a balmy 26.5 degrees Celsius. We used two standard Vernier probes to take the measurements and recored he data on the laptop computer. We will keep checking the temperatures as we enter the colder months of January and February. Quite a bit of additional snow has fallen in December- it could end up being the most on record. The EAT crew has braved the cold and deep snow to keep the composting project moving forward. Well done gang!
