Eagle Scout Project Benefits Garden

Over the summer Malcolm Greaves and fellow scouts installed two wonderful storage bins to keep finished compost in at USM's garden. Work began in mid August and just recently concluded over Labor Day. The cinder block idea was original and designed entirely by Malcolm for his Eagle Scout requirement in the Boy Scouts . The bins allow better permanent storage for finished compost and did we need this. With the bins now completed additional, natural vermicomposting can take place. In the fall and spring the finished compost will be added to the gardens to provide rich nutrients in the soil. Thanks Malcolm! Job well done!

Kip,

I agree, that is a job well done. What a wonderful addition to Karen's Garden! I think those bins will definitely come in handy, especially considering the volume of kitchen waste that you guys are processing out there. Way to go! Keep up the good work. Thanks for keeping these postings going...it helps me stay connected!

Cheers!

Hey Matt,
The Garden is going pretty well. We harvested, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, basil, sun flower weeds (gotta learn how to roast them), pumpkins, gourds, eggplant (did not work so well), a dozen pea pods, peppers (both hot and sweet green bell)lettuces, and cucumbers.
The tomaotes and the cucumbers were big producers this year. EAt has grown in membership this year. Have quite a few 5th graders thanks to Annette Schweble joining the team.

Will Allen from Growing Power was in the news. here is the link to his article from the JSOnline

Hope you are doing well.
