Environmental Action Team-January Update

The Environmental Action Team is well under way here at USM. Club members met on Thursday, January 25th after school to empty recycling containers throughout the Lower School, Middle School, Admin areas and athletics. We also made a visit to the school composting heap.

You'll see a few pictures of the club members and Mr. Jacobs adding to the compost heap which is located behind the transportation barn. Each day the kitchen staff collects vegetable/fruit scraps from the Lower/Middle School dining room and places them in a few holding bins which are located in the dumpster coral outside of the kitchen entrance. Club members empty these holding bins onto the compost heap two times per week. Next week we plan on weighing the scraps prior to dumping them on the compost heap. This will give us a good idea of how much organic material we're composting on a weekly basis.
